The Butterfly House, is settled on Wheeler Farms and offers visitors the opportunity to view hundreds of species of butterflies in a beautiful enclosed garden setting.
With more than 500 butterflies from as far away as South America and Asia, The Butterfly House’s controlled environment lets us view more than 100 species of the colorful insects we might, otherwise, only see in books or on television.
When we went in, we were greeted by a young and friendly woman.
The admission fee was $10.00 each, which I thought was a little high, but I also had to keep in mind the price of maintenance and care it must take to house all the butterflies.
The woman briefed the rules before we could go in. We weren’t allowed to touch any of the butterflies, don’t step beyond the barriers, don’t feed the butterflies, and we had to make sure while going through the doors, that we let the first door close completely before opening the next one to ensure the butterflies did not escape.
After nodding our heads obediently, we were allowed to go in.
It was like stepping into another world. As soon as I entered, there were butterflies of all sizes and colors swirling around me. I love experiences that make me feel like a Disney princess, so when the butterflies swirled around me, I felt like I was Snow White or something.
Not to mention, I was also in a dress, so extra princessy feelings for me!
Though it was not a very large space (it’s essentially a greenhouse) and there were quite a few other people in there, The atmosphere was so peaceful and quiet. Everyone in there seemed to be just as in awe as I was.
There was a mutual understanding among us all to have respect for the butterflies and their space, that all we had to do was simply sit, observe, and appreciate.
There were quite a few spots that had fruit left out, giving the butterflies a place to land and munch. This gave us perfect opportunities to get close up pictures of them. My favorite butterfly in there was The Blue Morpho. They were just so vibrant and fearless, they would come so close to us.

David and I sat on a bench and held each other’s hand. It was nice just being present and enjoying the moment with him. After a while I did get chosen and have the honor of one of the butterflies land on my shoulder.
I was pretty satisfied after that, so we left and explored the grounds a bit.
They have a nice little garden area which is also a perfect spot for some photo ops. If you have kids, you can definitely get some whimsical shots of them on the butterfly shaped bench.
Coming here was a nice little day date for David and me. I recommend coming here at least once to experience the magic and beauty of the butterflies.
