The Green Crow is A First of Its Kind Mobile Plant House with Awesome Plants and A Unique Owner

The Green Crow is a unique and independently owned plant store located in Rossford, Ohio.

The color green is associated with many things, including nature, harmony, tranquility, peace, growth, and renewal. It’s also the color of many environmental organizations, such as Greenpeace, and of the Green Parties in Europe. In the United States and Europe, green is often associated with springtime, freshness, and hope.

The crow has complex symbolic meanings across cultures, often representing transformation, change, and destiny. In Native American culture, crows are considered sacred and are seen as spiritual guides. They can symbolize: Transformation, Intelligence, Bravery, Opportunity, and Fate.

So how fitting is this name The Green Crow to a plant store? Plants often times represent transformation, growth, peace, tranquility, fortune, etc. The color green, crows, and plants intertwine beautifully together in a symphony of symbolism. It’s absolutely perfect.

The Green Crow is owned and operated by Greer Bowley. She is as unique as her name would suggest. I had met Greer and her husband, Matt, through David. They had hired David to train their dog and after meeting them and seeing them a few times over their dog training sessions, I knew quickly that Greer and Matt were good and interesting people.

Greer grew up in Swanton and always had a passion for herbology and botany since she was a child. She had said once she had an interest in something, she pursued that interest diligently. She scoured through plant books, to find any and all the information she possibly could. Her interests put her on the path of landscaping for a while where she was able to sharpen her skills identifying plants, pest management, and increased her knowledge in irrigation installations and maintenance.

Fast-forward a few years later and The Green Crow was born, and Greer’s dream of having her own plant business was realized. First starting off in their home, then to their brick and mortar, The Green Crow has been open for business for approximately the past couple of years.

She sources the majority of her inventory from Florida, but some of her friends as well as herself grow plants as well.

Matt handles more of the business side of things. He is quite savvy with how he markets the shop through their social media accounts and website. He’s the perfect yin to her yang, and together they make a formidable team.

The store shares a small building with a dog grooming salon, which I thought was funny since I am a dog groomer. The logo being a simple green crow on the front of the building.

Walking in, the space is small and humble, but the vibe is zen but full of life. Shelves were lined with an impressive variety of plants, ranging from low maintenance, which is my speed, to more Exotic plants that I shouldn’t be let near with a ten-foot pole if they have any hope of surviving.

All of them were uniquely beautiful, healthy, and vibrant. Each had their own traits and story to tell. I have absolutely no idea what some names of these plants were, but I can tell you there were twisty ones, viney ones, colorful ones, tall ones, short ones, big leafy ones, pointy ones, and hang-y ones.  In short, if you’re looking for a specific plant, the chances are pretty good that they have it. And, even if they don’t, Greer is pretty good about working with you and seeing if she is able to special order it. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and you can tell she really cares about getting you what you want. I also really appreciated that she had labeled the plants that were pet friendly with a green paw sticker. Super cute and efficient.

In addition to the plants, a friend of hers, Crystal Hauser, makes beautiful mandala type artwork on pots that she sells. They are quite the eye-catcher.

But wait! There’s more! Greer also sells a variety of apparel such as beanies, T-shirts, Tanks and Sweatshirts. All items have their logo and name printed on the front.

Also, she sells stickers that she had designed herself, proving her to be quite the artist as well.

Anything in the store can also be found and ordered through their website.

The Green Crow is also mobile! They are unique in this, being that it is Toledo’s only mobile house plant store. Throughout the summer, you can catch Greer and Matt and her beautiful plants at a number of farmer’s markets and festivals. They have a van which they have affectionately named Bertha to help transport their plants to all these events.

Greer also hosts various workshops once a week at different locations around the area where depending on the type of workshop, you can learn how to mount a fern, build your own terrarium, or how to build a herb garden. These usually take place at a local brewery or winery. It’s a perfect idea for a date night or a friend’s night out! Their schedule of upcoming workshops and events can be found on their website.

The Green Crow will be my go-to place for houseplants. Greer is a beautiful and kind soul whose energy is felt right when you walk in. No matter your skill and comfort level with plant care, she is right there to answer whatever questions you may have. She is a perfect example of if one pursues what they love, that love is felt by all who come to purchase what you have to offer. It is in that way, Greer and The Green Crow make the world a little brighter and a little greener.
