Discovering Sweet Experience was indeed a sweet experience, but also a dangerous one. I only say this because this exceptional shop of confectionary dreams is just a hop skip and a jump away from where I work. This means sweet temptations are quite literally just around the corner, which doesn’t bode well for my lack of self-control.
Located right next to another iconic Toledo fixture (my personal experience was less than iconic), Schmucker’s Restaurant, Sweet Experience has a cute and distinctive sign in the front, which you can see in the main image above.
As soon as you walk in, the heavenly smell of chocolate and popcorn invades your nostrils in the most welcoming way.
The place is like stepping into the board game Candy Land. To my right were tantalizing glass cases of Hershey’s brand ice cream. Many of you will be delighted to hear that Sweet Experience offers a variety of vegan ice creams, which is one of the many things that sets it apart from other confectioners.
Every flavor you can imagine was in there. You can get cones, milkshakes, malts, and sundaes. And yes, you can create your own concoction with any of the flavors.
To the left were displays of one of their most popular online items, the popcorn. It is a hot commodity on Etsy.
In addition to fun flavors like peach mango, and strawberry, there were also flavors for the adult palettes such as Hennessy, and Crown Apple Whiskey. I could be wrong, but this is the only place that I know of in the area to sell alcohol infused popcorn.
I brought home a bag of the Hennessy, ($8) which was labeled with butter, sugar, corn syrup, and cognac. I did not taste the cognac, but it was delicious and highly addicting. I had to stop myself from finishing the bag.
The front case housed a variety of enticing chocolates molded into cute animals like turtles and bears. What caught my eye, however, were the Buckeyes the size of tennis balls.
Behind the counter there was a standing fridge that housed their pièce de résistance of the entire store.
Believe me when I say their Cheesecakes in a Jar are worth every cent and calorie.
I bought and tried the peanut butter one, ($7) and it was that melt in your mouth experience that made me want to hit something.
The label on the front of the adorable jar listed the ingredients, which were cream cheese, sour cream, whip cream, graham cracker, sugar, margarine, lemon juice and peanut butter.
I appreciated that all the ingredients were just simple, and the jar was very convenient for transport; it’s almost like you get a souvenir with your dessert.
My Cheesecake In A Jar Journey (my kind of journey)
In addition to ice cream, chocolates, popcorn, cheesecakes, and a variety of candied nuts, Sweet Experience also sells picture perfect candy apples! It’s nice to know that I can get a candy apple anytime I feel like one, instead of waiting for the fall. If you looked close enough, you’d be able to see my longing face reflected on their shiny candy coating. They have been stored into my mind under the file “must try at another time”.
Everything in the store except for the ice cream is made in house, so all the offerings are for sure made with passion, care, and love.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting the co-owner of the place. Her name is Chalise Morris. She was warm, friendly, and inviting. She co owns with her mother Tara Johnson.
Sweet Experience was an idea that evolved over time from her grandmother, who would bake a variety of cakes and other delectables while she was growing up. She had worked with the previous owners of the space and when they decided to put it up for sale, she told her mother about it.
Together they bought the space and turned it into what it is today. And, beyond all the incredible sweets in the shop, these two local ladies will make treats for any celebratory event if you contact them by email.

Sweet Experience is the perfect name for this delectable little shop! Nothing quite gets to the heart like good old-fashioned dessert, and this place is making its mark. I will for sure be back.
