Bowling Green Farmer’s Market: Located in a Hip College Town with Lots of Free Samples!

Another farmer’s market? Is there such thing as too many? The answer is NO, my friends!

Located in downtown BG in the heart of a happening college town, this farmer’s market had an array of fresh produce, hot sauces, tasty treats, and gifts. The best part? So many if not all gave free samples! I love the word free but I for sure love free samples of anything!

So many local seeds and plantings to choose from.

My boys and I arrived shortly after it started, and the food market gods blessed us by providing a close parking spot.

Walking up, Hershey immediately received his usual Ooohs and Aaaahs. While he was getting his attention, I observed the awaiting tents ahead.

This market was significantly smaller than the Perrysburg Market and the Downtown Toledo Market. It only took up one section of a parking lot, but I would soon discover that its small size still makes a big impact!

Flatlands Coffee caught our eye first. They offer brewed hot and cold coffee, tea, soda, and pastries. They were offering samples of one of their new teas. The name of it was something complicated that even the guy working there had trouble saying.

We tried the new tea (cold) and oh my goodness was it delicious!

There was a bold taste of cinnamon and orange also a hint of something floral.

Unfortunately, it was not for sale, so I think they were just testing it out. If they do start selling it, I will definitely be buying some! You can find their coffee in various grocer markets and coffee shops. You can also order their products online and have them shipped within 24 hours for ultimate freshness!

While I was watching Hershey walk around with David, A friendly voice called out from behind me. I turned around and looked, and a woman beckoned me over to check out her products.

Her company was called King and Queen Spa LLC.

This company is located in Toledo, and they offer a variety of services from facials, massages, and waxing.

Their products range from body butters, oils, sugar scrubs, etc. She had me smell a few of her body butters, which all smelled very nice, but it was the Daydreams one that had me closing my eyes and taking second whiffs. It smelled light and sweet.

The scent was tugging at the edges of my mind looking for a memory, but I couldn’t pinpoint what it was.

I tried a little on my hands, and it was smooth and light. It left my hands looking shiny but not greasy.

We tried a small sample of lemon lime cake from Sugar Milk Bakery, which was divine. The owner/baker (I believe her name is Brynn) is located in Bowling Green, and all of her products are gluten-free. I would have never known that if she didn’t tell me. She doesn’t have a brick and mortar, rather, she bakes all of her products in her home.

Can you imagine how delicious her house smells?

Lastly, David was the most excited to try a sampling of hot sauces from Angry Irishman. I sat this one out, my tolerance to hot sauce is pretty weak.

The products from Angry Irishman are completely natural with no preservatives or artificial colors. They are an award-winning hot sauce. In 2014, their original hot sauce earned the 2nd Place Chili Award in the “Not So Mild” Category from the Toledo Farmers Market.

Of course, David had to try the award winner, which was simply called Angry Irishman. It was a jalapeño and habanero mixture. David said it was not for the faint of heart. So in other words, I would have died if I tried it.

He also tried one that was called, Jherkin McGherkin Jhamaican Sweet Pickle Hot Sauce. Yes, that was a mouthful. He said it was sweet and savory, and would go well on chicken or fish.

A notable mention goes to Anderson’s Farm Products. We didn’t check them out too much, but we noticed their prices on meats were very good and fair. They had all sorts of raw meats to choose from, and David was pretty interested in getting some liver pieces for our dogs. We made a mental note to buy from them in the future.

What sets the Bowling Green Farmer’s Market apart from the other farmer’s markets we have been to so far, is how personable the vendors are. They are friendly, with a number of them stopping what they were doing to come say Hi to Hershey. They struck up conversations, and overall it was just a really nice experience.

The market is held on Wednesdays, through October 18th from 4-7PM. There are also food trucks that rotate weekly and live music on scheduled Wednesdays.

If you have the opportunity to check out Bowling Green’s farmer’s market, you definitely should!
