The Georgian Colonial home is open for free tours and hosts a variety of cultural and historical events.
With more than 30,000 total square feet, the Manor House is a one of a kind property used in part today as the headquarters for the Metroparks district. The house, or specific rooms, can also be rented for weddings, meetings and other private functions.
The Manor House at Wildwood Metropark is known for its annual Christmas decoration walkthroughs. However, the hard workers at the manor have put a spooky spin to celebrate the Halloween season for the second year in a row. Now known as the Eerie Manor Tours, the volunteers have transformed the rooms of the house into the most fun, spooky and if I may say, impressive displays.
The best part is that admission is completely free.
The Manor is quite beautiful, sitting on top of a rolling hill. Going at dusk made the house look ominous and hauntingly beautiful. The outside was decorated with tombstones and spiderwebs. Upon entering, there was a guide dressed as a witch directing us which way to go to.
We followed the small crowd in front of us, looking in awe at the innovation and imagination that it must have taken to come up with some of the displays.
There were over 30 rooms filled with volunteer decorators’ favorite spooky, scary and fun Halloween themes ranging from popular seasonal movies to classic iconic imagery. One of my favorites was called In the Depp, which was a cute display portraying Johnny Depp’s character Edward Scissorhands. This was made by a local hair salon called Bratt.
Walking through was fun because not only did we get to see some cool things, but it gave me some ideas of how I might decorate for next year. It was also funny to see some of the little kids squeal in mock terror at some of the decorations. Don’t worry, the walkthrough is extremely family friendly, the house promises no jump scares.
This was a great excuse to get out of the house and into a beautiful park for some innocent Halloween fun. It was a ghostly good time that I highly recommend to all.
