I don’t know if the art you create at Peace Love and Pottery creates the world, but it sure is fun, and it’s a great place to let your inner artist soar!
Peace, Love, and Pottery is a located in Sylvania OH.
The concept is simple. It’s a paint your own pottery studio.
My friend and I were looking for something fun to do for our early birthday celebration. Our birthdays are four days apart, so of course we have to celebrate together. We both love doing artsy things, so coming here seemed like a natural fit.
Walking up, I thought the sign was absolutely adorable. With a peace symbol, a heart and then the word pottery all in stark white, it was eye catching and unique.
Right away we were greeted by the nicest woman named Dawn. She gave us each a clipboard where we wrote down our contact information and were told to walk around and pick what piece we wanted to paint. When we decided on a piece, we had to write what we picked and the price of the item. The prices listed on each item include the piece, glazes, and studio and kiln time. Prices start at $10 per piece and go up from there. On average, it’s around $25-$35 per piece. Glass glazes start at an extra $3.
We browsed over 300 pieces on the shelves. Each piece was so cute, and every one seemed to call out to me, as my imagination ran rampant with all the different ideas to make them beautiful.
After much consideration, my friend and I both settled on a heart trivet. ($35)
It was time to paint. Immediately, anxiety and stress start to wash over me as I try to figure out how to make it look. What if it looked dumb? What if it looked like a toddler did it? Should I have selected something simpler? But then I remembered that’s not what this place is about. This place is about having fun, being creative and losing yourself in that creativity.
There is no “wrong” way to go about painting your piece because it will distinctly be your own beautiful work of art. Set your imagination free.
After I took a deep breath and let go, I just started having fun with it. I was happy with the end product. I did a design with strawberries, cherries, and flowers. Simple but fun and definitely me.
My friend, who is clearly the more experienced painter of the two of us, painted a beautiful scene of lavender sprigs and a cheery sun.
No clean up on our part was necessary, we simply left our pieces and brushes on the table and checked out. It was all such an easy process.
We were told that they just needed to fire up our pieces in the kiln, and we could pick them up in a few days.
The owners of Peace Love and Pottery are Sarah Best and her mother, Sandy Bourland.
Sarah came from the corporate world and Sandy is a retired teacher. The mother daughter duo are kind spirits and make everyone who comes to their studio feel welcome and offer up encouragement to anybody, like me, who doubts their creativity skills.
There is no appointment needed when coming here. You can walk in anytime during open hours to get creative! They do tend to fill up quickly on the weekends, and then they begin working off of a waitlist – just like a restaurant. If you have 8 or more in your party, I suggest you book a private room in advance.
All you have to do is give them a call!
My friend and I had a wonderful time at Peace Love and Pottery. We made a beautiful memory there together and that I am most thankful for. If you are needing to let your creative flag fly, this place is the perfect place to do so!
