Warm weather is here and on a perfect 80 degree day David, Hershey and I went and experienced our very first Perrysburg Market Day.
Every Thursday in the summer, merchants specializing in fresh produce, plants, food trucks, baked goods, personal care items, snacks, textiles, art, and much more set up their booths in the beautiful Historic District in Perrysburg! All merchants are local, so it’s a great way to go and support the community.
Strolling up and down the street of downtown Perrysburg is always a treat with the variety of small shops and intimate restaurants. The added layer of fun with the market day really made the small street come alive.
I couldn’t help but think of the opening song in Beauty and the Beast, where all the townsfolk are singing about Belle.
I imagine myself as the princess walking and twirling through the people as I idylly wave at passersby and taste the various samples that the merchants are practically begging me to try.
Of course, I don’t actually do these things as people may have me committed, but it’s a fantasy that the Disney lover in me can’t ignore.
The market was bustling and it was very family friendly. Parent’s, children, and four legged children milled about.
The smell of baked goods and the nearby food trucks made my stomach rumble.
Hershey showed off his obedience skills and the people loved him.
There were a couple merchants that caught my eye. One of them was Doodle Bean Coffee.
Not only did I think that this was an adorable name, but I connected with it right away, since David’s a dog trainer, and I’m a dog groomer.
Obviously, the owners are dog lovers, especially when it comes to doodles. So much so that they formed their entire coffee company around their own doodle. I noticed that all their coffees were creative dog related themes. A few examples were names like Hazel-Mutt, The Zoomies, Belly Rubs, and Dog House Dark.
I tried the Hazel-Mutt, which was described as a rich chocolate hazelnut flavor. I did get that chocolate flavor, but it was very subtle. It was a well embodied hazelnut that was indeed rich and not too strong.
David tried the Dog House Dark, which was a bold, smokey taste. I took a sip and we both thought it was delicious, so I bought a bag to take home. ($15)
I passed a booth with vegetables so big they looked like they had come out of a scene from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
I resisted all the homemade baked goods that I passed by, as well as some beautiful plants and artwork. It is wise when you go there to keep a certain spending limit in mind. There are temptations everywhere.
Adding to the friendly and cheerful atmosphere, live music was playing on the corner. The sweet sound of the violin soared above the crowd and filled my arms with goosebumps.
We also had a chance to meet and chat with a few different people there thanks to Hershey. He draws attention everywhere we go, and David answers their questions about his dog training program.
A few things to note about the Perrysburg Market Days are that there’s more than 60 vendors that are posted there every Thursday. You can grab a list of all the vendors at The Way Library or the information booth once the market begins. You can check social media to confirm attendance of your favorite vendors. The market will always run from 4PM-8PM.
Beginning the first Thursday in June and running through the last Thursday in August, you can attend free, local performances at the Commodore Schoolyard Lawn. The music is of all genres that vary from week to week. It runs from 7 PM-8:30 PM.
David and I will be attending the market throughout the summer because we love the atmosphere and talking to the people.
I hope that you take time the time to check out the Market as well. Who knows? Maybe we’ll cross paths. Wouldn’t that be nice!
