Whiskey Bean Boutique & Candle Co. Now Open In Toledo

So here’s an embarrassing confession. I have passed this shop on the daily and based on the name on the sign out front, I just assumed it was a place that sold liquor. Going off that assumption, I did not pay much attention to anything about it. Until now.

David was on his phone the other day and happened to come across a Facebook post about a Mother’s Day Event that was happening at the boutique.

This is when I found out that Whiskey Bean Boutique is, in fact, NOT a liquor store, but rather a shop that sells the works of various local artisans.

The shop is a blink, and you’ll miss it type place. There is a sign out front, but it’s not that noticeable. The building itself is inconspicuous and about the size of a small garage.

When trying to schedule coming here, I have to admit, I found the hours to be a bit strange, but I guess not uncommon for a small business. The boutique is only open Tues-Thurs: 9 AM-2 PM and then Fri-Sat 10 AM-4 PM. They are closed Sunday and Monday. I can see where it would be difficult for someone to come during the week when they close so early.

The day I went, I came straight from work in order to get there in time before they closed. It was also the day they were having their Mother’s Day event.

There were a few tables outside that had some stuff on them, but I didn’t pay much attention since I was in a time crunch. Inside the boutique was incredibly small but cozy. There was a table where you could get henna tattoos, and also a table where you could do tye dye. There was also a cute neon sign that hung on the wall that read, Just Be Yourself

The items that were displayed were absolutely adorable and lovely. There were tumblers, crocheted animals, jewelry, home decor, some clothing items, and of course, the candles.

One would be hard-pressed to not find a unique and well crafted gift here. There seemed to be something for everyone.

During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the boutique and the creator of Whiskey Bean Candles. Her name is Lauren Guy. Her work is hyperrealistic food candles that are hand poured. She only uses 100% soy wax infused with all natural essential oils and dried flowers.

The aromas she uses are geared for the rustic farmhouse and clean smells. The candles and wax melts are so detailed with them looking like bowls of cereal, pop tarts, waffles, Zebra Cakes and more. You’re not sure whether you want to eat them or melt them. Don’t leave them around on one who’s unsuspecting because I guarantee they won’t know the difference between it and the real thing.

I did mention to her that I thought the store hours were a little tight for one to make it there before closing, and she totally understood this. She told me that she was thinking about changing them to only being open Thursday through Saturday but extending the hours to close later.

Overall, I thought this little boutique was quite the experience. It may be small, but the owner and the vibe of the place leaves a big impact.

The inventory is always changing, so I will be a frequent visitor. Most if not all the items sold you will not be able to find anywhere else. It’s like having your own personal Etsy shop right around the corner, and it’s a great opportunity to support local.

Please go check this place out!

I ended up walking away with wax melts that looked like Zebra Cakes ($10) and an inspirational mug ($15)  that will be a birthday gift for a friend.

The Whiskey Bean Boutique will also be hosting a number of events in the upcoming months. You can check out their Facebook page to find out more.
