The Whitehouse Cherry Festival Review: We Came With Cherry Dreams and Left With Cherry Woes

The Whitehouse Cherry Festival took place June 8-10.

When I first heard of it, my head danced with images of bright cherries ranging from red to maroon. I dreamed of pies, turnovers, cherry limeades, jams, and other tasty treats.

This year just so happened to be the Cherry Festival’s 40th Anniversary, so I definitely expected to be swimming in cherries.

David, Hershey, and I drove through adorable downtown Whitehouse and managed to find a parking spot not too terribly far.

We walked in and there were many vendors, carnival rides, carnival foods, and one measly cart that was selling cherry pies and turnovers. I actually walked right by it at first, it was that unnoticeable.

Now, we did go to the festival on the 9th, after 4 o’clock, so all the cherry festivities for the day were already over. There was a pie eating contest, a cherry cook off, and a pageant that crowns the year’s cherry princess.

Still, I can’t help but wonder why there just wasn’t more to span throughout the day and into the evening?

We toured the vendors, of course, and there were some cool things to see.

The one that drew me in the most however was called Age of Aquarius. It is a Northwest-Ohio based metaphysical shop that specializes in quality, affordable crystals and minerals. They had tons of things carved in different stones and minerals.

I honestly could have bought the whole table if I could. They are opening up a storefront in the next year or so in Whitehouse.

On the carnival side, we saw the ever popular Ferris wheel, and the smells of popcorn, elephants ears, and corn dogs were intoxicating.

Hershey got to show off in front of one of the local competitors that were there, and even they couldn’t help but be impressed with how well-behaved he was. The dog mama in me was full of pride.

Will we be back to the Cherry Festival next year? Possibly. We just know to come earlier in the day to experience the cherry aspect. That is the whole point to come, after all.
